Froome: Now I Will Win The Tour De France
May 31, 2018
|CYCLING WEEKLY
New Giro champion looking ahead.
Newly crowned Giro d’Italia champion Chris Froome vowed to take his form into July and win a fifth Tour de France, following what he called the battle of his career to win the Italian tour, beating Tom Dumoulin (Sunweb) and Miguel Angel López (Astana) into second and third respectively.
“I arrived at the Giro not necessarily at 100 per cent like my rivals — I’ve built into the race,” said the Team Sky leader, looking relaxed and happy in pink after the final mountain test to Cervinia.
“I think I’ll be able to recover from this and go on to the Tour as well in very competitive shape.”
Victory in France would elevate him alongside Merckx, Anquetil, Hinault and Induráin to the five-time Tour winners club. As it stands, he’s the first British cyclist to win the corsa rosa (pink route), and one of only three riders to have held all three Grand Tour titles simultaneously.
