Scraps Tamil Nadu Over Farmer Suicides

THE SUPREME Court has expressed unhappiness over the silence maintained by the Tamil Nadu government on the suicides committed by farmers in the state that was declared "drought-affected" in February.

Taking note of the petition filed by the Tamil Nadu Centre for Public Interest Litigation, which highlighted the plight of farmers, a Bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra said, "Farmers are reeling under severe living conditions and the state government should act to save them from taking their own lives. Silence is not the answer."
