Trump Trauma: Trump's Blatant Racism And Religious Bigotry Is Shaking The World

He announced a wall to stop migrants from Mexico escaping to the US. He swore that he will debar Moslems from entering his country. He screamed against Hispanics, and wanted to throw them out. And he has done some of that already.

In the last week of January this year, America erupted in a spontaneous protest against his actually carrying out all these. He took America out of the Trans-Pacific-Partnership, which die hard Republicans held would damage the US. He banned entry of immigrants and asylum seekers from seven Islamic countries and went on a Whitist rampage, suggesting that now even Pakistan, US’ best friend in Asia, may also be listed as banned. Curiously, he is clever enough to hold out the olive branch for India, saying that we have contributed hugely towards America. Is it because Indians like Shalabh ‘Salli’ Kumar are part of the American Right the billionaire donated almost one lakh dollars and flew in Bollywood stars for Trump’s Republican Hindu do in New Jersey during the long and acrimonious campaign?

Then his police detained two Iranian refugees at the airport, and America exploded. “Court to cabbies, America walls up against visa ban”, headlined one major Indian newspaper. Cabbies, almost all of them of Asian origin and mostly from Pakistan, jammed airport roads. Hollywood to Silicon Valley, everywhere there were protests. Apple CEO Tim Cook plainly said: “Apple would not exist without immigration, let alone innovate the way we do. And even a Federal judge issued an emergency order saying those entering America with valid papers cannot be held back.

Waiting for Amma

It would seem that even while on a ventilator, Jayalalithaa can give directions to her confidants. Or were the directions to celebrate the party’s founder’s day given in advance? The secrecy around the chief minister’s illness underscores Jayalalithaa’s grip, despite serious illness. Bhavani Kuchi reports from Chennai.
