Get prepared for landscape shoots

Dan Mold says there’s no such thing as too much preparation when embarking on a landscapes photography trip…
-

You may be isolating safely indoors, but you can still take your camera out for your daily exercise on your own. In Spring you can take advantage of the wild blooms, walking in fresh meadows, and there’s the benefit of shooting at reasonable sunrise and sunset times!
No matter what time of year you choose to shoot, success is often down to your very own preparation. Outstanding landscape photographers aren’t just lucky, they’re consistently able to capture stunning skies and unusual weather phenomena, because they’re some of the most organized pros in the business.
More often than not, it’s about visiting a great location time after time and being patient and persistent, until you get that magical moment with perfect lighting. If you do find such a location, it’s worth dropping a GPS pin on Google Maps, or another similar app, so you know exactly where to go back to when you’re retracing your steps.
Preparation can go beyond just getting a good photograph, too. Some landscape shoots involve hiking and hill walking, and although these are popular, they can be dangerous if taken lightly. A first aid kit and a good set of walking boots are a must, and in mountainous terrain, the weather can change in an instant, so you can’t always rely on your smartphone to predict the weather on the day.
