How important is it to have good people skills as a portrait photographer?
Getting along with people is critical. To be a successful portrait photographer, clients have to be happy with the final images they receive and that means that they need to be relaxed, comfortable and happy for the duration of the photoshoot. If they aren’t completely at ease, it will show in your images.
To get the best out of their subjects, a good portrait photographer needs to be calm, patient, friendly and relaxed. I find that just chatting with people before and during the shoot really puts them at ease. Take your time too, I never rush my clients.
