Do you feel caged by the rules of photography? Or are you a person who doesn’t enjoy following all the rules that have been created? If yes, then abstract photography might just be the thing for you.
Abstract photography goes against the very nature of most photography rules, giving you the freedom to take a photo of anything that seizes your attention and allows you to discover your artistic nature.
Abstract photography means demonstrating a visual image that does not belong to the concrete world, but has been created through the use of photographic media. An abstract photograph may showcase a part of natural scene which eradicates its existential context from the viewer. It may be purposely staged to create a seemingly unreal presence from real entities, or it may involve the use of colour, light, shadow, texture, shape and form to convey a feeling, sensation or impression. The picture may be created using old-fashioned photographic equipment like a camera, darkroom or computer, or it may be created without using a camera by directly manipulating film, paper or other photographic media, including digital presentations.
Abstract photography is a very wide field of its form. Several subjects can become abstract depending on the way it’s shot. The best part of this zone of photography is, there are no guidelines. There are no rules about composition or framing. You are the only composer in the creation of your abstractions. But abstract photography is not a licence to do whatever you like, where the normal rules of composition don’t apply. If anything, they become even more important and accentuated. Give consideration to how you are going to order the shapes, patterns and colours within the image.
