A 12-year-old-girl spent the run-up to Christmas collecting items to gift to rescue animals at two Plymouth shelters.
Jess Colton, from Kingsbridge, began collecting dog treats and essentials from members of the community in October, to give to animals at Woodside Animal Welfare Trust and Gables Dogs and Cats Home.
The thoughtful girl managed to collect enough items to make up 100 shoeboxes 'filled to the brim' with treats and toys.
Jess's mum, Suzi Colton, said their family has always had Staffordshire dogs in their lives, and are huge dog lovers. Suzi and her husband, Russ, own a local dog-walking group called Waggles and said a lot of dog treats, new toys, leads and even dog beds were donated for Jess's shoeboxes from their clients.
