Marriage ceremonies back on – but big days are scaled down

- Anna Burnside

Wed letter day

Crack open the champagne and prepare the confetti... from tomorrow, weddings and civil partnerships are back on in Scotland.

But they have to follow the same social distancing rules as any other gathering – be held outdoors and have no more than eight guests.

As a result, there has not been a great rush to hold the ceremonies that were postponed when the coronavirus first hit in March but a trickle of couples are making it official.

In Glasgow’s Bridgeton, Italian Stefano Polizzi and Bulgarian Atanaska Georgieva will be one of the first post-lockdown couples to tie the knot.

They had planned a registry office wedding in Glasgow at the end of March and were delighted to reschedule the ceremony for tomorrow. One of the city’s registrars will do the honours in their garden.
