Party chiefs say focus must be on rebuilding nation after coronavirus

Scottish Labour will oppose a second independence referendum in its Holyrood election campaign next year.

The policy was confirmed at a meeting of the party’s governing body in Glasgow yesterday.

It came after several hours of debate at the Scottish Executive Committee gathering and is likely to spark a fresh round of infighting.

Leader Richard Leonard said: “ We agreed to campaign for a programme of home rule, devolution and democratic advance within the UK.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has fundamentally changed the terms of the constitutional debate in Scotland.
