Soon after sports minister Kiren Rijiju’s announcement that certain Sports Authority of India centres are likely to open for India’s elite athletes in running for the Tokyo Olympics, several national federations have started discussing paths to bring players back on the field as soon as the situation permits.

Rijiju assured athletes currently confined at the NIS, Patiala and SAI, Bengaluru, will be able to return to their respective fields by the end of May and has imposed strict medical protocols for players in the national camp.
