Modi holds 1st virtual summit with Aus PM Scott Morrison, solidifying idea of global front to meet Chinese challenges

Prime Minister Narendra Modi accepted US President Donald Trump’s invitation to join an expanded form of the Group of Seven (G7 grouping) on Thursday, and held his first virtual bilateral meeting with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, who is a close ally of Trump.

The meeting with Morrison, another huge critic of the Chinese administration, solidifies the idea of creating a global front to meet the challenges posed by China.

Addressing the media after the summit, Vijay Thakur, Secretary West (MEA), said, “In the meeting, India has taken strident steps forward by elevating the ties to comprehensive strategic partnership, yet it is careful in how it approaches Beijing and is carefully managing its problems of de-escalation at the IndiaChina border.”
