‘ADC move will prevent Tehran-like air crashes'

THE creation of an integrated Air Defence Command (ADC) will ensure that incidents like the Ukrainian commercial plane hit by Iran do not take place in the fog of war, feels Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane.

Last year, after the Balakot airstrikes on terror camps during aerial dogfight between the Indian and Pakistan Air Forces, a Mi17 helicopter was brought down by the Indian Air Force (IAF) by mistake in Budgam, Kashmir.

“Formation of an Air Defence Command will ensure such blue on blue incidents do not happen. Can say with a reasonable degree of confidence, such incidents will not take place after the Air Defence Command is set up,” General Naravane said during a press conference on Saturday.
