Mercury On Upward Trend, IMD Issues Yellow Alert For Rain Today

A western disturbance currently active near the hills gave Delhi a relatively warm Monday, with the maximum and minimum inching up compared to the previous day.

However, strong winds are likely to sweep through Delhi on Tuesday, with rain likely as well, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD), as it issued a yellow alert for light showers in the city.

Delhi's minimum temperature on Monday increased to 6.8 degrees Celsius (°C), from 4.3°C on Saturday and 6°C on Sunday.

This is likely to pick up further over the next few days, forecast to touch 8°C on Tuesday and 10°C on Wednesday, indicating that the winter chill is now likely on the wane.

Kuldeep Srivastava, scientist at IMD, said, "A western disturbance around Jammu and Kashmir is currently influencing parts of the plains and leading to cloudiness. This has led to an increase in minimum temperature as well as a change in wind direction to easterly winds," he said.
