Burger King powerless as Russian outlets stay open

BURGER King is struggling to get out of Russia as its partners there refuse to shut restaurants.
Restaurants Brands International (RBI), which owns the US fast-food chain, said it would ditch its stake in the Russian business after its franchise partners refused to temporarily shutter restaurants in a protest against the country's invasion of Ukraine.
The company is the latest operator to run into trouble with local partners in Russia. Marks & Spencer has this week faced criticism as it struggles to shut down franchised stores in the country.
David Shear, international president at RBI, said in an open letter that Burger King's local partner and day-to-day operations chief, businessman Alexander Kolobov, had refused to recognize sanctions.
