Morgan Still Gunning For Test Recall Like Easter
December 29, 2019
|The Rugby Paper
With a new contract safely pouched, Ben Morgan believes Gloucester are in the perfect position to launch a New Year push for the Premiership title.
England’s forgotten No.8 also warns those who believe his Test career is over that he will not be giving up the fight, citing the remarkable longevity of former rival Nick Easter, below.
Morgan, 30, told The Rugby Paper: “My attitude hasn’t changed towards it and if my performances warrant it, I certainly would never turn England down.
“It’s up to the coaches in place and it’s another four years now until the next World Cup so they’ll probably be looking towards that with youth in mind – but I’m still only 30 and I’m playing well. It just depends how people might look at things.
“If you look back at Nick Easter, he hardly played for England after 2011 but came back into the environment quite late in 2015, so you can never rule things out.
“I guess Eddie Jones will be looking at wholesale changes now but, as ever, if you’re playing well enough, age doesn’t really come into it. Nick was 37 when I played with him at the 2015 World Cup so whether it’s high or low, it’s pretty irrelevant.”
Morgan’s best chance of an England recall would be by helping Gloucester overcome an inconsistent start to make a serious bid for this season’s title.
