ALDERSHOT Town finally ended their torrid FA Trophy record with a clinical victory while simultaneously ending a historic run for Welwyn Garden City.

The tie was dubbed the biggest game in the Citizens’ history and they gave a good account of themselves, but ultimately ran out of steam as the Shots’ quality shone through.

A dubious Mike Fondop penalty was the difference at half-time before Aldershot enjoyed a more clinical second half to progress past the first hurdle for the first time in seven seasons.

Welwyn were able to enjoy a fine solo goal from sub-Jordan Kinoshi on their big day played behind closed doors in what was only their third Trophy appearance and first time in the third round.

“I can’t have a go at the lads, they’ve worked their socks off for the whole season,” said Welwyn manager Nick Ironton. “They train full-time and it showed a little bit towards the end.
