Package will cover clubs for 3 months
THE National League will continue discussions this week with the Government and The Football Association as to how a £10 million rescue package will be split between clubs.
Non-League’s top tier started as planned yesterday behind closed doors but only after receiving confirmation of financial aid at the eleventh hour.
The Government said it would support the 67 member clubs of the National League on Tuesday although it was still unclear in what form the help would arrive.
The league announced on Friday evening confirmation “of significant financial grant-aid support from the Government to compensate clubs for essential revenue lost from fans not returning in October” which totals £10 million over the first three months of the season.
A formula now has to be determined as to how the sum will be divided up with the Government having a crucial say given that it is their money.
