DISES students take aim at packaging waste

STONINGTON—Four students from Deer Isle-Stonington Elementary School stood up in front of the local select boards and asked them to support state legislation that would push companies such as Amazon to cut down on wasteful packaging.
Teacher Mickie Flores and adult family members accompanied Aalie Klemenz and Rosalie Bayley to Stonington Town Hall on Monday, March 2. Three days later, Billy Gove and Ashton Larrabee came to Deer Isle Town Offices with the same message.
“This law will save taxpayers money by shifting the cost and responsibility of disposal to producers,” said Rosalie Bayley.
