Countless sporting events have been held in the Westfalenhallen Exhibition Center in Dortmund since it opened back in 1925. The six-day track cycling races, popular far beyond Germany’s borders, were held there a total of 67 times between 1926 and 2008. For boxing legend Max Schmeling, winning the European championship title in Dortmund in 1927 was the beginning of his exceptional career.
