Mason ‘Smasher’ Smith looks back over his amateur career

Smashing It

HOW was your time on the GB squad?

I was always grafting. It was very hard and intense training. Running in the morning, strength and conditioning, then your boxing sessions. I was always sparring with Luke McCormack and Calum French so I was always in there with good opposition.

I boxed for England, got on to the GB team, had 111 fights now... I’m 21, turning 22 in September. That’s a lot.

What have been the highlights?

I’ve boxed some very, very good people. Obviously the Haringey Box Cup as well, I boxed the Norwegian champion [to win], Ali Srour. That was a good highlight. I really enjoyed that, it was live on TV as well, it was a good opportunity to get myself out there.
