Spot The Fake App In Seconds
April 2019
|Exhibit
Yes! It’s happened to Avast, WhatsApp, Waze, and Facebook, so yes, it’s worth looking twice before you download.
These types of apps are not something to take lightly. Behind the scenes, they’re often doing some very gnarly stuff—like stealing all of your personal info, tracking every move you make, or even worse. In today’s digital world, imitation is almost never the “sincerest form of flattery.” More often than not—and especially for apps we purchase for our digital devices—a “copycat” can turn out to be a rip-off.
WHY DEVELOPERS MAKE FAKE APPS?
A fake app might or might not offer functions similar to the app the developer is copying. Most of the times, fake apps tend to copy the name of a popular app. This helps the developers in gaining instant visibility for their app and, in turn, get better profits.
However, in order to do so, these developers try to keep the name of the app along with its identity as close as possible to the original app. Identifying a fake app is not that difficult and here’s how you can spot one.
7 TIPS FOR AVOIDING FAKE APPS
1. CHECK THE APP’S DESCRIPTION
