Last year, during a cricket match between India and Bangladesh, something really unexpected happened. While the match had taken an intense turn, and the crowds were at the edge of their seats, an unidentified flying object was seen hovering over the stadium. There was dead silence in the crowd and the players were evacuated almost immediately.
The ground started to fill up with police personnel trying to investigate what exactly happened. In a while the flying object descended on the ground and people realized it was a drone!
Even till last year, drones were still a very new concept in India. Due to this and a few incidence like the one mentioned above, the govt. of India decided to strictly moderate drone flying in India. If you are a drone enthusiast, it is very crucial to get to know the legal stuff for flying drones in India, otherwise your enthusiasm may lead to you serving jail time. There has been a lot of instances of drone fliers being arrested for flying drones without seeking the appropriate permission from the authorities. Flying of drones without permission is illegal in India but selling is not. Drones are easily available at various online platforms and are moderately priced. Though, there is no specific law yet which regulates the selling of drones on online platforms in India.
In this article we will cover the legalities around drone flying in India as we understand that it is an upcoming trend and people would want to experiment with it. Drones provide photographers with a lot of opportunities and it is already being used around the globe for a plethora of activities. Although India hasn’t drafted any specific laws yet, but it is expected that India is soon going to come up with a solid legal framework around drone flying. This would hugely impact the already booming media enterprises and professionals, as they would be able to experiment more and inculcate more elements in their artwork.
