Backing up & Saving your Images

There would be very few photographers who can claim that they haven’t even once accidentally deleted an image or lost an important file, yet so many of us neglect the need to back up our work.

It could be due to laziness, lack of time, lack of knowledge or sheer denial that anything unexpected will happen that prevents us from doing the most obvious thing i.e. always backing up your work. So with that in mind we shall look at inculcating a smart habit. In this article we will give you some guidelines and suggestions to consider before, during and after you saving your files. The next part is external hard drives; how to use them, how to choose one and which are some of the players in the market.

Preparing your Part

The first thing you will need to do is create a folder of all the files, images and documents you want to save. Whilst most hard drive capacities will count in a tera byte or two of space, online storage can be a costly venture. With that in mind, it is advisable to back up all your work or all the files in this newly created folder to an external device. Backing up is a part of the process and not something you should be doing only once a while, as it is as important as shooting.
