Paying ode to Mother Nature, this grand home in California has been created in Tuscany style, using environmentally friendly materials. Who says sustainable can’t look stunning?

A view over the rooftop, covered in reclaimed antique clay tile, reveals Lake Sherwood beyond. The setting, a hilltop overlooking Lake Sherwood, with views of the Santa Monica Mountains, perfectly accommodates the Italian look, while the Italian cypress and olive trees planted on the site continue the Italian feel of the home.

whose rugged stone walls and red tile roof belie its relatively young age. However, its the use of the old, reclaimed materials and environment-friendly materials, inside and out, that gives this home a sense of timelessness. From the curved driveway to a circular stone-paved motor court that leads to a bridge made with vintage planks that came from Coney Island, every corner has an element of surprise. Playfulness, joy and a respect for nature define this majestic house, designed by Los Angeles-based Landry Design Group.

‘As the clients are great travellers who loved Italy and were particularly drawn to the rustic farmhouses and villas of Tuscany, we designed an estate that is rooted in Italian design, with a stone façade and entrance tower that recall the rural villas found on the hillsides of Tuscany. Its rugged stone walls and red tile roof is composed of 21,000 tiles made more than 100 years ago! The owners wanted a home that was grand, but also warm and inviting that they could enjoy by themselves and also host family and friends,’ says Todd Riley, Associate, Landry Design Group.
