Much-acclaimed and recognised as one of the leading GenX architects, Tane traversed through Sweden, London and Denmark before dropping anchor in Paris.

I’m a Japanese architect based in Paris, France,” announces Tsuyoshi Tane, introducing himself at the Architects Meet organized by Japanese sanitaryware brand TOTO in Mumbai recently. After his initial studies in Japan, Tane went to Sweden, London and then Denmark, where he worked with Henning Larsen. “I saw there the most sustainable way of thinking,” he exclaims! Humility is a trait that stands out when you interact with Tsuyoshi Tane — recognized as one of the leading Gen X architects, for his award-winning projects and buildings, such as the Estonian National Museum, Kofun Stadium of Japanese Olympics 2020, Light is Time and many others. He was one of the three co-founders of Dorell Ghotmeh Tane Architects (DGT), the international team that designed the landmark single-storey Estonian Museum.
In 2017, Tane founded his own firm Atelier Tsuyoshi Tane Architects (ATTA – a growing team of over 30 architects, designers, and creators from all over the world) in Paris, and went on to receive numerous awards and honors, including the French Ministry of Culture Architecture Prize, French Architects Overseas Grand Prix, Estonian Cultural Endowment Grand Prix, and the 67th Japanese Minister of Education Award for Fine Arts. He has taught at Columbia University for seven years, and frequently gives talks and public lectures. The 40-year-old was also selected for ‘The 20 essential young architects’ by ICON magazine and ‘Architect of the Year 2018’ by NIKKEI Architecture.
