Beautiful materials and a statement island work together in this timeless design, which is seriously dressed to impress.
Can you describe the project?
The clients, who have three young children, bought this Edwardian home just off London’s Wandsworth Common, then knocked the whole thing down, only keeping the façade. Their brilliant plan, excellently executed by Dust Architecture, dustarchitecture.com, earned them a custom-designed family home, which includes this light-filled 10x6.5m living space.
What was the client’s brief?
They are an exacting couple, open to ideas, with a genuine love of cooking. They wanted the space to be clearly defined into cooking, dining and relaxing areas. It also had to flow naturally into the outdoor dining area and barbecue in the garden beyond. The overall design was to be very tailored and sharp. Words like “timeless” and “elegant” were mooted, but they also wanted an element of difference. In a big space such as this, the kitchen had to hold its own.
