THE ART OF COLOUR
September 2020

Interior designer Jessica Buckley dabbled successfully with a spectrum of shades to breathe life into the previously blank spaces of this home
When Jessica Buckley was brought in to create a look for this London family home, she was greeted by wall-to-wall white emulsion and the effect ‘was rather chilly’. In marked contrast, Jessica decided to use colour and pattern to introduce personality. ‘I wanted to make this a home that the owners genuinely look forward to returning to at the end of the day – a place that feels warm, interesting and inviting,’ she says.

Jessica previously worked in property in Asia and Sydney, where she retrained in interior design. ‘I was very lucky to learn my craft under the Australian sun where saturated colours come to life,’ she says. Back home in Britain, Jessica soon found she needed to adapt to the flatter light of the northern hemisphere, which meant rediscovering a love for the deeper, more traditional tones she had grown up with. Armed with an understanding of the power of both brights and darks, Jessica was ready to tap into the full potential of the colour spectrum.
