A soothing colour palette and gentle textures are key to the tranquil feel of this Sag Harbor home, just a stone’s throw from the beach.

Simple Pleasures

Beachside living is embedded in Daniel Richards’ DNA. The Australian-born landscape designer spent many years working in Sydney before moving to America just over a decade ago, and although he and his husband, Michael Wehner, now live for much of their working week in Manhattan, they have always made a point of spending summers on Long Island. The couple had never owned a beach house, but as Daniel’s passion for working on property design projects developed, they were finally tempted to buy in the Hamptons.

“After so many years of staying in the area, the idea of having our own home here was exciting,” says Daniel. “We worked out what was really important to us and decided that we wanted to spend more time by the water. I was very spoilt in Sydney where I could be at the beach in minutes; now, we can walk to the sea from our cottage.”
