This sculptural garden is a tapestry of foliage, with meticulously shaped box in pots that can be moved according to light and whim

DESIGNER PROFILE The work of Anouska Hempel, Lady Weinberg, spans the worlds of architecture, interior and furniture design. Inspired by her own utopian lifestyle, her designs are a fusion of western and eastern ideas which she and her eponymous design company produce with an exacting attention to detail, be it for her clients or for herself, as seen in this garden at her family’s London home in Holland Park.

When you bought the house, what state was the garden in?

It was a mess. There were weeds and stinging nettles everywhere; the boundary walls had fallen in and there were piles of rubble all over the place. I started to work on it soon after we bought the house, clearing it so that I could see the space better. Then we bought the house next door and merged the two buildings, and I finalised my plans for the garden after that.

What was the brief for this garden?
