While the village of Anjuna in North Goa is synonymous with clubs and nightlife, the newest addition to its landscape promises a quieter escape.

At Mahe — the name is inspired by the former French-occupied town in Pondicherry — influences from India’s eastern and western coasts and the country’s colonial past come together in a modern avatar. The restaurant is housed in a 19th century Portuguese home in a quaint neighbourhood with a church, guesthouse and lush paddy fields for company. “We have aimed to identify Mahe with a certain mood — mod but certainly unpretentious; warm, welcoming and soft,” explain the team of designers at the award-winning OCD – Office of Cognitive Design, the brains behind the project.
