This Inspiring Transformation Reveals The Potential Of A Run-of-the-mill ’60s Home.
POOL AREA For homeowners Gav and Maree, pictured here with daughter Sienna and dog Malibu, their diamond-in-the-rough Queensland home offered renovation appeal at first glance. Here, the existing pool was given a new chill-out zone, thanks to a platform clad in grey decking planks (for a similar style, look at Hardie Deck’s cement fibre options). Gav added a privacy wall using Weathertex Self Lok Ecogroove and painted it to match the home’s exterior. The resort feel is enhanced by a comfortably oversized outdoor setting (try the Hamptons range from Outdoor Furniture Ideas for similar) and a timber bar cart found at a salvage shop. Rapee ‘Riviera Stripe’ outdoor cushions from Zanui and a wall-mounted buoy found on Gumtree add the perfect finishing touches.
LIVING AREA Maree was given the two occasional chairs (top right) by a family member; she painted the frames white and reupholstered the seating with ‘Texas’ upholstery fabric in Silver from Spotlight (for a ready-made option, try Coco Republic’s ‘Santa Monica’ armchairs). DIY cushions with ‘Pyne Hollyhock’ floral fabric in Indigo by Schumacher balance out the colour palette of soft neutrals. The large ottoman – scored at a garage sale – was re-covered in a black-and-white fabric and a Home Republic ‘Adelfi’ rug in Stone Marle from Adairs adds softness atop white oak-look flooring (try Polyflor’s Planed White Oak for similar).

Deck the DOORS
The front door is our favourite place to make a festive first impression, and it doesn't have to involve a traditional wreath. From fragrant foliage and whimsical florals to ribbons, bells and pine cones, there are countless ways to deck your doorway in seasonal style. It might even be the perfect time to adorn your door with a fresh coat of paint. Here, we've matched Wattyl's most beautiful hues with decorative touches to ring in the holidays in style – and keep the cheer shining long after the season ends.
