It was built at Obertraubling, finished at Erding and made its first flight on 25 March 1945 with Werner Dahlitz at the controls. In early April Oberfahnrich Hand-Guido Mutke flew 500071 to 9./JG7 which had elements operating from Burg, Parchim, Brandenberg-Briest, and Lertz. On 26 April Mutke took off with 500071 from Furstenfeldbruch and contacted 20-25 B-26 Marauders north of Bavaria. While flying north of Lake Constance, over French territory, he noticed he was running low on fuel.
