NEW DRAMA

Sharp Objects

Monday, Sky Atlantic Hd, 9pm

Amy Adams may have achieved her big breakthrough starring as Disney princess Giselle in the 2007 movie Enchanted, but there’s nothing at all romantic or fairy-tale about her harrowing role in Sky Atlantic’s superb new US drama Sharp Objects.

Based on the debut novel by Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn, the thrilling eight-part series stars Adams as Camille Preaker, an alcoholic, self-harming St Louis newspaper reporter with a history of psychological problems.

When a young girl is murdered, and another disappears in her small home town in Missouri, she is sent to report on the case – but finds herself haunted by her past, including the death of her sister in mysterious circumstances, and starts to spiral out of control.

Co-starring Patricia Clarkson as Camille’s eccentric, passive-aggressive mother Adora, and Eliza Scanlen as her rebellious teenage half-sister Amma, the drama is directed by Jean-Marc Vallée, who directed Big Little Lies – and is set to intrigue viewers just as much.

We met up with 43-year-old Adams to hear more…

How would you describe Camille?
