With a population of more than 21 million people, you might not expect Beijing to be a haven for wildlife. But as naturalist and woodsman, Ray Mears discovers in the first episode of his travelogue Wild China with Ray Mears, the country’s capital city is full of green spaces that are home to a diverse range of animals. One of them is the Nanhaizi nature reserve, a city park that for more than a thousand years was the imperial hunting ground of China’s emperors.
