The Kapoor family has ruled Bollywood since the time of Prithviraj Kapoor. The legendary actor was part of the magnum opus Mughal-e-Azam, an epic historical film and one of the biggest box-office hits of its time. Four generations and nearly a 100 years later, the Kapoors are still some of the biggest names in the business.
You’d think that Ranbir, the scion of the khandaan, would want to work on a remake of Mughal-e-Azam, were such a film to be made, but the actor is surprisingly unsure. “I can’t say if I would want to work on a remake of the film. But if a sequel is made, I would love to be a part of it,” he says, adding, “I don’t have to confidence to do a period film.”
His assertion that period dramas are not his thing comes as a surprise considering he made his debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. “I think Mr Bhansali is a great director of period films. After watching Padmaavat and Bajirao Mastani I feel that he does justice to such films,” Ranbir says.
The actor does have some period films in the pipeline though, one if which is Shamshera directed by Karan Malhotra. “For the first time, I will be playing a very macho role. It is an action film; the story of a dacoit based in the 1800’s,” he says. Ranbir also alludes to a mystery project saying, “I will soon be doing another period film, which I can’t talk about yet.”
