Suicide Squad

In the critical department, DC Comics movies have not fared well in recent years.

With Zack Snyder at the helm, they remain predominantly dark and brooding, a style that doesn’t tend to do well for superhero movies. However, when Suicide Squad was announced, both fans and detractors hoped for the colorful movie promised by the badass trailers, the solid ensemble cast, and the frankly awesome soundtrack. So does writer-director David Ayer’s take on Task Force X deliver?  

Sort of.  

Suicide Squad follows a team of supervillains put together by government official Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) who are called in to do missions that may well get them killed in exchange for time taken off of their prison sentences. Fail the mission, and the villains get blamed for it and the government walks off scot-free. Win-win. When team member June Moone (Cara Delevingne) lets her Enchantress personality take her over and start causing mass destruction as most superhero movies are known to do, Waller calls in Task Force X, made up of Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), and El Diablo (Jay Hernandez), among others, to get in, extract a VIP, and get out.
