Be Centered, Be Free!

June 2019

Rishimukh

There is nothing better than the second chapter of Bhagavad Gita to take you back to your centre.

Be Centered, Be Free!

Even a little understanding of dharma, an understanding of your true nature will give you enormous relief from the fears and burdens that you face in your life. It uplifts you from fear and anxiety. Today, anxiety is so common in our society. This is because you are looking outward for approval. However, when you become centred, an entire shift happens. How can you get back to the centre?

The five senses draw you out to the external world. Anything nice that you see - your eyes trap you, they grab your attention; draw your mind to that object. Something good you hear, and that’s it – you are lost in that. Sight, smell, taste, touch and sound - each of these senses takes your mind outward. If your mind gets dissipated with the outer world, it indicates your weakness. When you become weak, retract your senses inward.

Krishna gives a beautiful analogy. To be able to give an analogy on a battlefield requires guts. When there was chaos all around, Krishna very calmly explains patiently by giving one analogy after analogy in order to make Arjuna understand. Understanding can only flow from what is already known. Analogies help in such cases.
