If you’ve taught your child to love “eggy”, feeding him while travelling in a foreign country needn’t be an ordeal. Especially if, like SAM WOULIDGE, you have a son who appreciates a Bangkok omelette as much as you do.

I always thought I would reign supreme in the Egg Stakes because I carry within me the ability to make eggs, bottereiers, the way my ma did, but Jacques has now taken over the crown. He is, according to our son, The King of the Eggs. Every morning before work and school Jacques and Seb listen to loud music and make breakfast eggs. Some mornings are French, others are Turkish and sometimes an egg requires only a tablespoon of mascarpone or a sprinkling of Parmigiano Reggiano to make it Italian. But we save the khai jiao, or Bangkok omelette, for weekends when we dream of golden Buddhas and tuk-tuks and longtail boats and spicy street food.
