With the next-generation Xbox, currently known only as Project Scarlett, looming on the horizon, we discuss what we want to see from the new machine
Doesn’t time fly? It feels like only yesterday we were opening up boxes and our lives to a new console generation with the Xbox One, and now, almost six years and more than a few grey hairs later, we’re talking about Xbox’s next iteration with Project Scarlett. This new device might not even have a proper name yet, but that hasn’t stopped us from coming up with a list of demands as to what we think Microsoft’s new machine should be capable of.
Adam: I’m huge on backwards compatibility, and Microsoft has already expressed its commitment to that end, but I would love for the new system to be natively compatible with the whole Xbox back catalogue of games.
Warren: A more straightforward solution would be nice. I don’t mind playing titles in their original resolution and I’d trade the HD upscaling of a limited library for the ability to play any game from my collection. A one-system solution for playing all Xbox legacy games would be brilliant.
Drew: A trend I’d like to see continue from the Xbox One X is the option to choose where you devote the console’s power. Sometimes I’m playing a game where the textures are amazing, but I’d rather the framerate be stable.
