In summary, what is Black in History?

Blackinhistory.tumblr.com is a curation project that presents influential (yet likely unknown) black Americans throughout past and present history and the contributions they’ve made to our society. Because “black history is American history.”

What is the inspiration behind the idea?

To be honest, my conflicting feelings on the celebration of Black History Month. While I appreciate that we have a month in which everyone can learn about people we likely won’t discuss for the rest of the year, it’s usually the same conversation about the same people. I wanted to change that conversation, shift the perspective. The goal was to present little known subjects that appealed to a wide demographic. Their accomplishments needed to be relatable to a larger audience, regardless of race.
