My Korean Jagiya (My Korean Darling), whose pilot episode aired last August 21, is GMA-7’s latest primetime offering, starring Heart Evangelista-Escudero and Korean actor Alexander Lee, a former member of the K-pop group U-KISS.
Fascinated with the Pinoy audience’s strange addiction to Korean telenovelas and the K-pop culture in general, writer Jonathan Cruz was inspired to create a love story about a Pinay K-pop fan fantasizing not just that she would meet her Korean heartthrob idol, but also that she would make him fall for her.
To bring the story idea to the TV screen, GMA had to hire Korean actors and bring the Filipino cast and crew to South Korea, the home of K-pop, for the actual shooting. With director Mark Reyes (
