THEY were surrounded by fellow diners, but during a romantic dinner at New York City’s Peasant restaurant on Sept. 6, Katie Holmes and new boyfriend, NYC-based restaurateur Emilio Vitolo, Jr. only had eyes for each other. At one point, Katie — dressed casually in a white T-shirt and jeans and rocking her signature messy bun and minimal makeup — sat on Emilio’s lap as the smitten pair giggled and kissed as if, well, no one was watching. “They were drinking wine, laughing and having fun,” says an onlooker. “Emilio clearly brings out a playful side of Katie, and it’s nice to see her so happy.”

Not everyone is so thrilled about the 41-yearold’s new love interest, however — including her ex Jamie Foxx. The on-again, off-again pair split for good after six years last summer, and the 33-yearold chef is the first guy Katie has gotten serious with since the breakup. “Katie is head over heels in love with Emilio,” says an insider. And it stings that she’s going so public after she and Jamie kept their affair under wraps for so long. “Unlike Jamie, Emilio isn’t into the whole nightclub scene and partying all night, and they have so much more in common,” notes the insider. “Emilio treats Katie like a princess, and he’s helping Katie to finally forget about Jamie once and for all.”
