Alia Bhatt: A Bollywood Baby

You have a very urban upbringing, but your character in Badrinath Ki Dulhania had its roots attached to rural India. Was the script enough for you to internalise your character?

Very good question, I must say. The good thing about Shashank (Khaitan) is that he is a fantastic writer. So everything is written in the script in detail, I didn’t need to do anything. But, what I wanted to do was to identify with this girl so that I could feel how she would feel in certain situations. What I love most about acting is that when there is a completely new character, there is no reference point and no relation. But in this film, I found one; that she was a very ambitious girl.

Over Student of the Year, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania, how has your professional equation with Varun evolved? On the Koffee with Karan show, you guys had mentioned that you’ll behave like kids when you’ll are together in the same room.

Honestly, I feel that we, as people, are the same with one another. It is not like we have done so many films, or that Varun is a star, I am a star and so there is a difference in our attitude. We are like newcomers when we work with each other. We are the same like we were during
