JOHN MELLENCAMP’S rebound romance with skin-care siren Jamie Sherrill has come crumblin’ down — as the newly single singer continues to pine for his ex Meg Ryan, The National ENQUIRER has learned exclusively!

According to a source, the “Small Town” singer and the “complexion couture” queen — better known as Nurse Jamie, creator of her own line of facial creams, lotions and beauty tools — called it quits after he turned 69 last October.

“Jamie gave him a puppy a couple of days before his birthday, but it was the wrong gift. He didn’t have the nicest names for it!” spilled a source. “They ended up breaking up days later, but still tried to make it work for a while.”
