The 19th-Century, 400-room Jai Vilas Mahal in Gwalior came alive in December to the sounds of deep house, with musical artistes from around the world. Chandni Durbar, the lavish suite once home to Maharaja Madhavrao Scindia I, hosted 150 lucky guests. They lounged amid royal artefacts, art, specially made crockery and a 10-course culinary experience under the stars in the adjoining balcony, with a splendid view of the Gwalior Fort of the mighty Marathas.

This was a multilayered experience never before created in the history of the majestic palace, the Italian-Doric, Corinthian residence of the Scindias, the erstwhile royal family of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh. The epic two-day event titled 'Pravaas' (the Marathi word for journey) was the brainchild of Aaryaman Scindia, son of Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Ścindia – India's Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Priyadarshini Raje Scindia.

Pravaas had been in the making for months. It was the coming together of the young Scindia scion's greatest passions music and food in an unforgettable, experiential way. It was also a showcase of new-age, inclusive, socially responsible, and empowered thinking that defines the millennial generation, to which Aaryaman belongs.
