Exercise For Covid-19 Survivors
February - March 2021
|UNIQUE TIMES
Covid-19 tends to affect older patients more severely. Those who survive are at high risk of sarcopenia, malnutrition, depression, and delirium. Post-covid-19 chronic pain may affect patients of any age but seems to be commoner in elderly patients. Physical symptoms add to the psychosocial impact of disrupted access to health care (such as arrangements for obtaining regular medication), core personal routines (such as walking to local shops), social interactions (such as meeting friends), and lay and professional support networks.
We’ve passed the one year mark of living with the Covid-19 pandemic. For those who have been recovering from Covid-19, returning to “normalcy” in everyday life can be a challenge. Exercise remains a key component of rehabilitation for patients recovering from Covid-19. However, Covid-19 survivors need to be cautious about resuming exercise as you recover and consulting with your physician before you start exercising again is highly recommended; regardless of your age and however mild or severe your case was. How safe is it to embrace physical activity and fitness, especially when so much is still unknown about how the virus affects one’s overall health?
Why do we need return to exercise after Covid-19?
