The process of learning and development can be tailored as per your plans. You can be intentional about the skills and experiences you need to gain to get to the next role, incrementing slowly towards your desired path, your aspirations and career goals. It starts with you.

Circles Of Learning

All through our years of growing up from childhood to adulthood, as a person and as a professional, if there is one thing that we constantly get advised upon - sometimes unsolicit edit is about learning and development. We are asked to be a constant seeker of knowledge and growth. Constant learning and thinking, exploring and adapting has been the cornerstone of human evolution.

I come across a lot of mentees who ask, there is so much to do, so little time, I don't know what I should learn and develop on, I want an accelerated career path in the organisation etc. My coaching on these topics is usually quite basic. We are all born with a natural tool kit, skills to survive, our intuition and instincts. As we underwent formal or informal education, planned or unplanned experiences, we keep adding and updating this tool kit inherited by us at birth. We add more skills and more perspectives. This takes place irrespective of whether we intentionally and knowingly do it or not. And, that is what growing up is all about. Now, given that you have decided to take up a corporate career, and, there is a certain level of expectation from you as a professional, you surely want to thrive and succeed. That being the case, the process of learning and development can be tailored as per your plans. You can be intentional about the skills and experiences you need to gain to get to the next role, incrementing slowly towards your desired path, your aspirations and career goals. It starts with you. Think about the things that give you energy, the topics of your interest, what motivates you to take out that extra time and learn something. Each one of us is a result of our unique experiences, skills, attitudes and values. My guiding principle has been Individual Commitment + Trusting Teams + Effective Organisation =Sustainable achievements.

Striking The Right Balance

In 2017, an employee in the HR Department of a leading global company received an excel sheet attachment in his official mail. While the content seemed harmless, it was in fact a well disguised Ransomware attack which had in fact placed several companies worldwide in the dock. Ransomware attacks targeting HR departments across the globe have since been in vogue since they possess valuable employee data which can be used to commit crimes such as tax frauds and the like.

What Is And What Needs!

The idea of the best fit works only in a perfect universe. In reality, what talent specialists and hiring managers should focus on is getting the close fitment. They should work with an approach that bridges the gap between what is (available) and what needs to be (done).

How Can They Fire Her?

It is a common phenomenon in the corporate landscape to misinterpret the inability to respond to a query by a Manager as a serious lapse which at times leads to termination of his/her services. As a fallout, not only do they risk losing out a person with superior managerial skills, they also dampen the spirit of the juniors in her department, leading to sinking morale and reduced engagement.
