Why are we discussing sleep today? On March 15, 2024, we celebrated World Sleep Day. This campaign started way back in 2008 by the World Sleep Society in order to promote awareness among general public regarding the importance of sleep and the various sleep disorders.

This year’s theme has been ‘Sleep equity for global health’. What it means is that all of us, whatever activities we do, whatever work environment we are in, we should have adequate opportunity to sleep. It should be sufficient for our physical as well as mental health.

How much sleep is adequate for a healthy living?

Humans spend nearly one-third of their lifetime sleeping. That itself is a strong indication of how important this function is for human existence and well-being.
