Q: Creativity and innovation is the DNA of Greubel Forsey. How do you keep that intact and still meet the needs of customers? How do you stay exclusive?
I think part of the reason why creativity and innovation is the root of Greubel Forsey is because we didn’t start with the idea of a marketing exercise, to say we needed a watch which did XYZ, at such price. We really started from the idea that we wanted to create a watch around a certain mechanism and how we imagined it would look. So we created a watch with no constraint at all, in the beginning. And then the challenge is to finalize that, to bring it together, and only then you look at what the value of this needs to be. So of course, that’s a certain challenge, which is always pushing us further. But we have so many ideas, that there is always something new to excite and surprise the collector. So, in a way, I suppose that the desire to surprise, to engage the collector, through having a new innovation, new design and new techniques is a motive for us.
