I was chatting to a taxi driver on my way to the airport and was frankly astonished by the hours that he was compelled to work simply to make ends meet. With a wife and three children back home, he told me forlornly that he must work 12 hours a day, seven days a week, for 18 months at a stretch, before being permitted to take just one month’s holiday.
